“Monument” On the Top / Baukonstruktionsübung, 2002
“How do I get a Stump to look like a Monument?
A skyscraper out of the 60ies with the plumb height of approximately 40 meters was to be amplified. The new crown was to form a new identity for the building and include several conference-halls, a lounge area and a cafeteria.
The building needed a new sign. It wanted to be a monument. So I took Venturis image of the “decorated shed” and included all the program into a glowing advertisement sign, which therefore was a build sign – a “duck”. Because of this exclamation being too big for the building I had to push it together to a package which now still cantilevers over the edge of its column. The evolving form gives an impression of a barock space. Totalitarian architecture.”
